What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
MLD is a gentle massage method that works the body's natural healing system to help reduce swelling and speed healing.
Light handed, strategic strokes on the skin increases the speed at which lymph is moved through the body. In a resting body, lymph typically moves at 6-10 beats per minute.
Unlike the cardiovascular system, the lymphatic system has no beating organ to assist movement of fluid, so the body depends on internal movement of muscle movement and external exercise (like walking) and MLD massage which can increase lymph movement up to 10 times, taking it up to 100 bpm and possibly more.
What are the benefits Manual Lymphatic Drainage?
-
MLD removes metabolic waste, excess water, bacteria, large protein molecules and foreign substances from the tissue.
-
MLD is an analgesic: through its gentle rhythmical and precise hand movement, pain is alleviated by greatly reducing the pain signals sent to the brain.
-
MLD has a soothing effect: The light pressure used in MLD massage decreases the sympathetic system and encourages the parasympathetic system to respond for total relaxation.
-
MLD supports, encourages, and works along side the cardiovascular, immune and nervous systems.
-
MLD helps the body heal quicker from injuries, surgeries, trauma, chronic conditions, edema, and minimizes scar formation adhesions.
CLEANS
This fluid is a way for the body to clean out the trash that builds up between the tissue.
HEALS
Lymph plays a crucial role in repairing tissue after injuries and surgeries.
GUARDS
Lymph carries a type of white blood which guards the body from attacks and builds immunity.
MOVES
With no heart-like organ to pump things along, the lymphatic system depends on movement of nearby muscles to move fluid.
What will a MLD session be like?
The initial MLD session will start with a 15 minute consultation.
30 minute sessions are ideal for minor swelling, injuries, post joint surgery, and headache/migraine pain.
60-90 minute sessions are ideal for all other conditions.*
(*Some conditions will require Doctor approved documentation.)
30 Minutes - $65.00
50 Minutes - $80.00
80 Minutes - $100.00
